FAQs

Can I just turn up on your rides and come along?
Yes, feel free to turn up at any of our rides and join in. In fact we would suggest this is probably the best way to find out if joining the club is for you (hopefully you will). After a couple of rides if you decide to join us then we can chat about membership.

Where do the rides leave from?
The rides all start and finish at Croston Sports Club, Westhead Road, Croston. Where possible please try to arrive prior to the departure time to allow a prompt start to the ride.

Do I need to wear a helmet?
Your safety is paramount when out on the group rides so we strongly advise all riders to wear a helmet.

What happens if I get a puncture?
Please make the group aware that you have a puncture by raising your hand in the air and shouting ‘Puncture’. We will wait with you while you fix the puncture and there is usually no shortage of help and advise from other members if you require it. It is expected that all members are self sufficient though and should carry a spare inner tube, tyre levers and a pump.

Do I have to wear the club kit?
No you do not have to wear the club kit when out on our club rides. Its great to see our members out representing the club and many of us wear the kit when out but we recognise everyone has their personal preferences (or it may be in the wash!).

Do I have to be a certain fitness to join your rides?
We have rides that cater for all abilities, please see the events calendar for info on the different types of rides and where available the routes are published in advance. As a minimum you should be able to comfortably ride 20-30 miles to get the most enjoyment out of it.

What type of bike do I need?
Any. All that we request is it is road worthy. In reality most of our members use road bikes as it makes the ride distances more comfortable. But this is certainly not a requirement so if you have a bike, come along and have a go.

Are Ladies welcome?
Absolutely. We have a number of female members at the club presently and are actively looking for more to join. Should numbers permit we are looking to potentially run a few ladies only rides during the summer months. If you would like more information on any aspect of the cycling club please contact Lindsey Styler (via the contact us form – put Ladies membership in the subject) and we will be more than happy to answer them.
