Apologies:-

The following points were discussed;

Website Update: Dan provided an update on the website. The website is virtually complete and is looking great (well done Dan!) If you have any further content, photo’s or idea let Dan know. Dan also indicated that the site has received quite a bit of traffic and has led to a number of new members joining rides.

Finances: Please note that the cut-off point is 20th May. Following this date you will not be covered by the club insurance. This could have serious implication should you be involved in an accident. Reminder: £20.00 annual subscriptions are now due. For bank details please contact us via the contact us form on the website and they will be sent to you, alternatively Glen, Dan and Paula all have the details. Please ensure to include your name as a reference. It is preferable to make the subscription electronically but if you are unable to do this it is also possible to pay a Committee member. Paula has offered to take over the club finances. Unfortunately, she was unable to make the meeting so I will arrange to meet up to transfer the paperwork and account details.

  1. Rides: Following feedback from members we have decided to change the ride structure to ensure there is a ride for all abilities. Info on the rides has been published at http://www.crostonvelo.co.uk/club-rides/ , for simplicity details are also included below.

Tuesday Club Ride

Intermediate club ride:  Leaves Croston Sports Club at 18:30 every Tuesday evening. The route will usually be between 25-40 miles depending on weather conditions. Although a largely flat ride to allow good group riding some smaller climbs should be expected. Riders should be able to average between 15-17 mph on a reasonable flat ride with favourable weather conditions, the ride does operate a no-drop policy. Routes are decided on arrival depending on weather conditions and riders ability to ensure everyone will be comfortable with the ride.

Thursday Club Ride (2 Ride groups)

Social club ride: Leaves Croston Sports Club at 18:30 every Thursday evening. The route will usually be between 20-30 miles depending on weather conditions. These rides will often be flat although some smaller hills may be included and ridden at a steady pace re-grouping at the top. This ride will usually average between 12-15mph and operates a no-drop policy. Routes are decided on arrival depending on weather conditions and rider ability. This ride is ideal if you are new to group riding and want to meet fellow like minded cyclists keen to improve.

Advanced club ride: Also leaves Croston Sports Club at 18:30 every Thursday evening. The route will usually be between 30 – 45 miles, although often flat to allow a good group ride there may be evenings where the route is undulating and riders are expected to be comfortable on either terrain. The average speed will be 18mph+, although there is no intention to drop riders it is expected that you should be able to keep up with the group. Riders are expected to be self-sufficient and know the route home. Where possible routes will be published in advance on the various media (website – events page, facebook, twitter & strava) so members know what to expect on the ride.

Both rides end with a social event at Croston Sports Club where they serve us home cooked food and we enjoy a few recover ales! Worth coming along if only for that…..

Sunday Club Ride (Mixed abilities – all welcome)

Mixed ability ride: Our Sunday club ride leaves Croston Sports Club at 9:00 every Sunday. All rider abilities are welcome and rides/groups will be adapted before the ride commences depending on turn out. The speed of the group will also depend upon rider turnout. These rides will often involve a suitable coffee stop to re-fuel and rest weary legs. A suggested route will be published in advanced on the various media (website – events page, facebook, twitter & strava) to give members an idea of what to expect but please don’t be put off by this if you don’t think the route is for you, it may be adapted before the start if riders are not comfortable with the terrain, or we may form 2 groups. Often these rides are between 30 – 40 miles and the terrain is usually a little hillier (purely on the basis we have more time available to complete the route). Some longer rides will be planned in during the summer months but will be published in advance

Ability Identifications: We have decided to drop the name novice group and rename this social club ride as it feels this is more suitable for all members.

Member contact: Dan has requested that ALL members input their contact details included name, mobile phone number and e-mail address via the contact us form on the left hand side of the website (any page of the site). This will allow an up to date accurate database of members to be compiled to improve ongoing communication.

British Cycling: Renewal of our affiliation has been submitted by Glen and should be completed shortly. Don’t forget that it is worth joining as an individual and that there is a considerable discount for affiliated club members.

  1. At the next full club meeting (date to be set) we are hoping to have two presentations
    1. A talk on nutrition from Sport in Science
    2. A life insurance (don’t switch off!) offer from Aidan Read which provides a number of incentives and benefits for us sporty types.

Next Meeting: Please note the next meeting is a whole club meeting and will take place on Wednesday 20th May at 20:00 (Croston Sports Club) so all club members are welcome to join to discuss how we move the club forward. Also if you are a perspective member feel free to drop in, it is an ideal opportunity to meet everyone. If you are yet to pay your subscriptions please note you will be able to pay cash on the night for your 2015 subscription.
