We asked for suggestions on how to use club funds. The following suggestions were made

  • Additional advertising to encourage club membership – suggested posters in local area including schools and shops. Also considered whether an advert in local village courier would be beneficial. Dave Taylor has agreed to look into these and report back at the next committee meeting re: costs
  • Tool box – Bill suggested a safe box including some spares e.g. track pump, inner tubes, tyres etc
  • End of season BBQA

All will be considered and decisions will be made at the next committee meeting (June)

Vitality Life – Aidan Read

Club member Aidan Read provided us with a presentation on Vitality Life Insurance. This life insurance product is aimed at rewarding a healthy lifestyle (like cycling!). Aside from the standard life and critical illness cover it provides benefits such as: 50% off a Garmin/Polar bike computer, 50% off running shoes, £500 off a bike from Evans, free coffee and cinema tickets amongst others. For more info have a chat to Aidan Read at one of our club rides.

Sports Nutrition – Tim Lawson

We had a guest presentation from Tim Lawson of Secret Training. Tim is a European Track Cycling champion, a sports scientist and founder of Secret Training who provide energy supplements to Tinkoff-Saxo Pro cycling team.Tim provided us with information on the best way to approach your nutrition, the best ways to stay hydrated and the importance of proper recovery. We were also provided with some samples of his products for our next rides. You can find out more at http://www.secret-training.cc/

Sportive’s & Technical – Bill Tinsley

Bill reminded everyone of the importance of good bike maintenance and to ensure bikes are kept clean to increase their lifespan.

He also confirmed on occasion that members have turned up on rides without spares to be self-sufficient. Please ensure as a minimum you bring with you spare inner tubes, tyre levers and a pump.

Bill has compiled a directory of local sportive’s which we are welcome to use. We have suggested he chooses 3 sportive’s (July, August, September) that are fairly local and have a number of different options e.g. 35 miles, 60 miles and 100 miles to suit all rider abilities.

Support for local scout group

Nathan Follows has asked if we are willing to support a cycling badge for the local scout group. This would involve a bike maintenance session that Bill is willing to support with and a short intro bike ride explaining how to ride safely on the road in a group. The provisional date for the bike ride is Monday 22nd June (19:30 – 21:00). If any members are willing to support this local initiative then please contact Nathan Follows (preferably via the scout group post on the Facebook page.
