Croston Velo Return to Activity – Week commencing 29th March

As guided by British cycling club activity can re-commence from week commencing 29th March 2021. It is critical to us as a club that we put the safety of our members first and are seen as a responsible club so we ask all members respect the following guidance. A summary of the British cycling guidance can be found below (full information at https://www.britishcycling.org.uk/zuvvi/media/media/other/The_Way_Forward_-_Groups_and_Clubs_-_March_2021.pdf ).

  • Club rides of up to a maximum 15 participants
  • Maintain a safe distance of 1 meter plus
  • If you have any symptoms relating to/or have been in contact with some with symptoms relating to COVID-19 please do not attend.
  • Social interaction before and after cycling activities should only take place outdoors, and in separate and distinct groups consisting of up to six people or two households.

As a club we feel the maximum number of 15 is too big in the current circumstances and would be considered irresponsible by the wider public and therefore our guidance is group sizes should be limited to 8.

For many of us it has been a while since we have ridden in a group or you may be considering riding with a club for the first time. If you wish to refresh yourself on group riding etiquette or how to minimise risks on rides please review the guidance on our website at

Group Riding etiquette – http://www.crostonvelo.co.uk/main-about-us/group-riding-etiquette/

Croston Velo Risk Assessment – http://www.crostonvelo.co.uk/wp-content/uploads/2019/11/Croston-Velo-Risk-Assessment.pdf

As before we will run three separate groups (and should numbers start to build as the club regathers momentum will look to expand to more groups e.g. B group is too large and we can run a separate B and B+) These groups will be labelled A, B and C. For ride definitions and speeds please visit http://www.crostonvelo.co.uk/club-rides/ .

To avoid congestion outside the sports club we are intending to start the groups from different locations in the village for the time being. The sports club is also undergoing a major refurbishment and the car park is temporarily closed off so we are unable to meet there safely (Once this is re-opened we will amend the meeting locations – please await further comms)

These location are:-

A Group – War memorial (Junction of Highfield Road and Grape Lane – There is a green opposite this please use this to congregate and not in the road)

B Group – At the top of the road that goes to Velo Café (Brickcroft Lane – junction with B5247 Bretherton Road)

C Group – Croston Railway Station Car Park

Given groups are setting off at similar times this could result in congestion while out on route. Please be mindful of this and if another group is passing then please allow them to pass and ensure a sufficient gap is left between the groups on the road.

As always we will publish a set of ‘summer routes’ ahead of rides re-commencing which will be published on the various social media outlets and the website for you to download to your GPS devices. The route will then be confirmed before each ride via social media. If as many members of possible could ensure they have the routes downloaded this makes rides safer and more free-flowing.

The ride schedule will be as follows

Tuesday evening – departs 18:30 – 2 rides B and C group

Thursday evening – departs 18:30 – 3 rides A, B & C groups

Sunday morning – departs 9:00 – 2 rides B and C group

* Please note that the above guidance applies to current members only as the group ride has to be classified as an organised sport to go above the ‘rule of 6’

** For new people to the club please ensure you join the club and complete the membership form on http://www.crostonvelo.co.uk/croston-velo-membership-form/ as this will ensure we are able to support track and trace efforts if required.
